About Roger's Rabbit Rescue

Meet Roger Rabbit, our rescue's namesake!

In 2020, Roger Rabbit was abandoned in an apartment after an eviction, along with several other animals. At the time, Roger was deeply bonded to his beloved wifey bunny, Jessica Rabbit. Both bunnies were brought to a local animal shelter through law enforcement after their abandonment.

After arriving at the shelter, Roger and Jessica were placed in a foster home. Soon after, Jessica developed serious medical issues and was returned to the shelter, where the difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize her. Roger was left widowed, grieving the loss of his bonded companion.

Shortly afterward, Roger's foster home placed him into an enclosure with other bunnies. Unfortunately, bunny bonding is a careful process that can take weeks or even months, and unbonded bunnies should never be housed together without proper introductions in neutral territory. The experience was overwhelming for Roger, and his behavior became increasingly defensive. A few weeks later, he was returned to the shelter.

This is when Roger met the person who would change his life forever.

Roger's future mom and future founder of Roger’s Rabbit Rescue met him while she was volunteering at the shelter. Roger would lunge, grunt, scratch, and bite if someone approached him, touched his belongings, or even opened his enclosure. Building trust with Roger took months of patience, understanding, and respect for his boundaries. Little by little, he learned that people could be safe. Today, Roger is living his best life with his favorite human and hoppily shares his home with his adopted bunny siblings - Miss Mina, Louie, and Leo.

Roger’s journey is the main inspiration for the creation of Roger’s Rabbit Rescue. We prioritize taking in bunnies that have a longer stay at shelters and are overlooked by adopters, for reasons such as behavior, age, and breed.  Our goal is to educate the community about proper bunny care, with an emphasis on understanding bunny behavior, so that bunnies like Roger can have a second chance at a hoppy, fulfilling life.
